Happy Boxing Day and First Day of Kwanzaa!
For those of who celebrated Christmas yesterday, I hope it was merry time for you and your families. I enjoyed seeing family on Christmas Eve and Christmas day, and eating healthy as much food as I could stuff into myself. Seriously, between the desserts on Friday night (Mel Smith made delicious Cookie Dough Truffles from the How Sweet It Is blog) and the absolute feast prepared by my Aunt Linda on Saturday, I had to eat east least twice as much as I normally do…on each day. Needless to say, I understand why people choose to bulk up during the holidays. It’s almost predetermined! Don’t worry though, I ate some of the carrots that were left out for the reindeer.
While I’d expect to feel a bit hungrier the day after some binge eating, my morning bowl of Steal Cut Irish Oats and scrambled eggs have me feeling full and satisfied. Oh, thank you, complex carbs, protein, and healthy fats. (Yes, I’m referring to eggs as healthy fats. Stop whining, Mr. But-saturated-fat-is-bad-for-you, and keep drinking your soy milk.) I’ll have some Chobani Greek Yogurt later while I’m working at the JCC, and I’ll be right back to normal. Now the only thing I need to worry about is the ‘blizzard’ that’s making it’s way across Long Island. Apparently they’re expecting 12″-16″ in the area, which would make it difficult to get to the gym at 8am. Hopefully the meteorologists continue their streak of inaccurate predictions, and I still get to squat at 8am. But who knows what will happen.
If I do indeed get snowed in, I can easily workout at home with all my toys, but unfortunately I won’t be able to use the shnazzy new trap bar that my mom got me for Christmas. Sure, I picked it out and ordered it from Perform Better myself, and she didn’t wrap the gigantic box that it came in, but I’ve wanted one for a year now, and she took care of me. It’s probably so she can ask me to move furniture around, so maybe she’s taking care of herself. Hmm….
In addition to the trap bar, I also got loads of Under Armour products; Thanks, Santa! My parents got me some outfits to wear while I’m observing in schools for my practicum class, my brother hooked me up with more Heat Gear (Can you ever have too much?) and my girlfriend gave me the most awesome UA fleece ever, which has been on since Friday night, unless I was sleeping. I love Under Armour, I love my trap bar, and I love my family. Thanks for helping me feel comfortable while I workout guys, you’re the best.

My mom surprised me by framing my degree from Nassau, and she’s pretty excited that it says ‘magna cum laude’. I’m excited as well, and I’d like my degree from Adelphi to say ‘summa cum laude’. That will put me one step closer to taking over the world, but that’s a while away. Instead, I’ll focus on something closer, which is the NYSAHPERD Nassau Zone at Adelphi University. I attended last year while I was a student at Nassau, and this time I’ll be attending and presenting as an Adelphi Panther! After the Suffolk Zone in INSERT MONTH, I really thought about the role of resistance training in physical education, and when the call for programs came, I submitted an application. If you plan on attending the Nassau Zone, come to Campbell Lounge during the 2nd session (9:15am-10:15am) to see The Application of Functional and Efficient Group Training to Physical Education. I’m already pretty nervous, because it’ll be my first presentation, but I’m very excited, and I can’t wait to prepare my presentation. It should be a good one! (End shameless plug.)
Shifting gears, let’s talk about December 25th for those of you who don’t partake in the Christmas festivities. I know that many of my friends enjoyed Chinese food and the movies, and I must say that I’m a little jealous; I love both of those things! Well, while watching the Lakers/Heat game yesterday, I saw a trailer for the upcoming Jason Statham movie, The Mechanic. This morning, I tracked it down and watched in on YouTube, as well as the trailers for The Eagle, I Am Number Four, Fast Five, and Thor. They all look pretty awesome, but I can’t decide which one I like the best so far. I remember watching all of the Fast and the Furious movies growing up though, so you get to watch the trailer for Fast Five!
